Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869. He advocated a policy of non-violence to help achieve independence. His goal was to help to alleviate poverty, liberate women and put an end to caste discrimination, with the ultimate objective being self-rule for India. He tried to stop the Hindu-Muslim conflict which led to his assassination by a Hindu fanatic in 1948. Later leaders of non-violence, like Martin Luther King, incorporated Gandhi’s ideas into their own non violent causes.
Some of my favorite quotes are written by Gandi:
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.” “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”“Let your life be your message.”
