CLASS DESCRIPTIONS WHAT IS VINYASA? At Republic of Yoga, all classes are taught in the Vinyasa style. This elegant and powerful style of Hatha Yoga seamlessly synchronizes breath and movement. Vinyasa is rooted in the ancient Ashtanga Yoga tradition, and has been practiced and passed down through generations of yogis. The outer experience is one of changing physical shapes; the inner experience is stillness. In effect it is a moving prayer, or meditation in motion. GENTLE All levels and ages. Release, relax, and rejuvenate in this class. Perfect for brand new beginners, or anyone wishing to take a gentle approach to the asana practice. Class make-up varies by session and teacher so there will always be something fresh and interesting in the practice. Builds stability, easeful movement, flexibility and balance. Props facilitate a deep experience with support. 75 minutes. FUNDAMENTALS Level 1 foundational series recommended for those who are new to yoga, as well as experiencedpractitioners seeking a tune-up. Offered in 4 set class formats: standing poses, forward bends & hip openers, back bends, and introduction to vinyasa–putting it all together with the breath. Learn the names of poses, how to use props, breathing techniques, how to safely move into and out of a pose, and step-by-step mechanics of each asana. This will create a strong foundation for your practice. 90 minutes. FUNDAMENTAL FLOW Level 1.5 vinyasa flow class, takes our Fundamentals class to the next level, incorporating detailed alignment awareness while presenting the basic poses in a flowing presentation. 90 minutes. SLOW FLOW Level 1-2 vinyasa flow at a slower pace, with a gentle yet deep exploration of the vinyasa practice focused on synchronizing breath and movement, with attention to alignment. This class develops body awareness, inner strength and easeful opening. 75 minutes. SLOW FLOW WITH GUIDED MEDITATION Level 1-2 vinyasa flow at a slow and steady pace, with extra hip openingposes to develop a comfortable meditation seat. Learn the real meaning of “meditation in motion,” and work from the outside to the inside, from movement to stillness. Culminates in a 10-minute silent meditation, followed by relaxation. 90 minutes. VINYASA level 2 Recommended for those with vinyasa experience. A strong (faster) flow practice, including breath-awareness, arm balances, and inversions. Variations are offered for both newer and more advanced students. Expect a deep and well-rounded practice that will leave you feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and inspired. Not recommended for brand new beginners. 90 minutes. VINYASA level 3 Take your practice up a notch in this warm, advanced level class. The room will be heated to 85 degrees, in addition to our own tapas. We’ll start with chanting, pranayama and a strong Vinyasa flow to take you into a developing sequence of challenging asanas including arm balances, inversions and deeper backbends, with a nice long savasana and closingmeditation. Oh, and the soundtrack will be spicy too! 90 minutes. *Recommended for those who have had a minimum of one year of asana practice, are injury-free, and are well-versed in arm balances, inversions and deeper back bends such as Urdhva Dhanurasana with straight arms. PERFECT HOUR Level 2. This comprehensive asana practice has all you need, in a condensed format. Expect a thorough and well-edited sequence that includes sun salutations, standing and seated poses, back bending, inversion, and meditation. Tune up, tune in, get it all in, and get on with your day! 60 minutes. YIN & MEDITATION All levels. Yin Yoga is a more easeful and patient practice in which the muscles are relaxed allowing for a release in the deeper web of connective tissue and fascia. The practice of longer holds incorporating props, and resting in the present moment offers a rich canvas for meditation and mindfulness. 75 minutes. RESTORATIVE YOGA All levels. Restorative yoga postures are calming to thenervous system and healing to the body. With ample props for support and long holds in each posture, guided imagery and soothing sounds, this class is meant to offer each practitioner the space to heal physically, mentally and emotionally. RESTORATIVE YOGA WITH MEDITATION All levels. As described above with 15 minutes of guided meditation added. 90 minutes. KIDS! A class for young yogis ages 4-10 intended to build confidence, body and breath awareness, coping skills, and fun through the practice of hatha yoga poses, yogic breathing, and noncompetitive movement games. Art, music, storytelling, and very basic concepts of yoga philosophy (e.g., kindness or non-harming) are incorporated. Studentsshould wear comfortable clothes in breathable fabrics and may bring a bottle of water if desired. 60 minutes.
