Pragunya and Nelson Myers-Daly are , a father and son duo from New Zealand whose influences include kirtan devotional music, ancient Indian mantras, haunting Middle Eastern melodies, plus a wide range of world and spiritual music.
They play the mantric melodies of Sri Chinmoy with acoustic instruments and uplift and inspire their audiences. “Music,” Sri Chinmoy once said, “will play a most important role in bringing about world oneness.” Monk Party has performed in North America (recently with Krishna Das in New York) and Australasia as well as world music and spiritual festivals, yoga classes, meditation workshops, private functions and also stage their own concerts. They liken their musical lifestyle to that of urban monks in the modern western world: a regimen of regular meditation, pure vegetarian diet and regular daily exercise to promote a life surcharged with peace, dynamism, happiness and purity. “This is our humble journey,” they say, “and we would like to invite you along to share our enthusiasm for music and the spiritual life.”
Pragunya is a former professional session guitarist who now devotes his life to the music of his meditation teacher Sri Chinmoy. Nelson grew up surrounded by instruments and music and it was a natural path for him to follow. He plays drums, flutes and harmonium.
