DMC Schedule Sunday Night Meditation every Sunday Night 39 West 14th Street, Room 507, NYC 7pm – 8:30pm $10 $350 yearly subscription This ongoing weekly drop-in class includes sitting meditation, dharma talk, discussion. The class offers an opportunity for students to discuss the development of their meditation skills and how dharma practice can be a support in their daily lives. After the class there will be refreshments and time for getting to know one another. Meditation experience is expected. Please arrive on time to the class. Five-Week Beginners’ Course at Open Center with Paul Weinfield Tuesday, March 22 (Introductory Class) Tuesdays, March 29, April 5, 12, 19, 26 New York Open Center 22 East 30th Street, NYC 6pm – 7:30pm $155 (Open Center Members) $150 (Non-Members) This course is a program. This five-week course will provide instruction in the fundamentals of insight meditation. Emphasis will be placed on learning the practices of sitting and walking meditation, anddeveloping mindfulness in daily life. To register, please contact the . Meditation & Yoga Retreat Saturday, April 9 with Peter Doobinin & Kate Solmssen Stephan PS 3, Hudson & Grove Streets, NYC 10am – 5pm $30 This day-long retreat, which will include periods of sitting meditation and yoga, will offer students an opportunity to develop stillness and insight, and deepen in mindfulness of the body. The yoga will be gentle and suitable for new and experienced practitioners. Students who do not wish to participate in the yoga will be able to do walking meditation. There will be a dharma talk and opportunities for personal interviews. If possible, please bring a yoga mat (some will be provided). *Please note that this is a program for students experienced in insight meditation. April Sutta Study Saturday, April 23 39 West 14th Street, Room 507, NYC 11am – 1pm $10 In this class we’ll exploreone of the suttas (discourses of the Buddha). The class will include instruction, discussion and meditation. Particular attention will be paid to the relevance of the teaching to our contemporary urban lives. May Daylong Retreat Saturday, May 7 PS 3, Hudson & Grove Streets, NYC 10am – 5pm $30 This day-long retreat will be held in the traditional insight meditation form, allowing participants to experience stillness and insight in a supportive environment. The day will include periods of sitting and walking meditation. There will be a dharma talk and opportunities for interviews. *Please note that this is a program for students experienced in insight meditation. Vesak Celebration Family & Friends Potluck Dinner Saturday night, June 4 39 West 14th Street, Room 507, NYC 6pm no fee Please join us for our Vesak Celebration! Vesak, the most important holiday on the Buddhist calendar marks the Buddha’s birthday. The Family & Friends Potluck Dinner provides an opportunity for DowntownMeditation students to practice and share in community along with their family members and friends. You are encouraged to invite family and friends to attend this gathering, which will consist of a short period of meditation, a meditation-related teaching, and a pot-luck dinner. We hope you and your family and friends will join us. Please let us know if you will be able to bring food (vegetarian) and/or beverage (non-alcoholic) to help with our meal. June Sutta Study Saturday, June 18 39 West 14th Street, Room 507, NYC 11am – 1pmattend the entire retreat. The cost for the retreat is: $950 (This amount covers the cost of your room and board.) Or $1,100 (This amount covers the cost of your room and board and contributes to the cost of room and board for the teacher, manager, and students receiving scholarships.) You will be able to reserve a place in the retreat by sending a $150 deposit. You must pre-register for the retreat. Please note you’ll forfeit your deposit if you cancel your registration after June 10, 2016. All retreatants will have a single room. The retreat fee includes three vegetarian meals per day. Garrison Institute is approximately one hour from the city. The center is easily accessible via Metro North, it is a one hour train ride from Grand Central. A shuttle bus will pick up retreatants at the Garrison station. In order for DMC tooff scholarships we depend on the generosity of those who are able to contribute to our “Retreat Scholarship Fund.” Please indicate when you send your registration if you are able to contribute and how much you can offer. Please note that you will be able to make a donation to the teacher at the retreat. Please note that fees cover only the expenses for putting on the programs. There will be an opportunity to make a contribution (dana) to the teacher at each class/retreat. Students may want to to consider giving through the pledge method; information about the pledge method is provided at DMC classes. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
