- Chris Sanfilippo Hi Ryan, you made some really great points here. Your morning ritual reminded me of a story from “Daily Rituals” where a painter would meditate in front of a blank canvas for a few hours before he began to work. It’s a great book, you should check it out. Also the part where you mentioned “It was like waking up, doing some yoga for an hour, meditating thereafter…” reminded me of ritual acceleration from “The Art of Learning”. The goal is optimal performance and to achieve the optimal state of mind by performing a ritual just before you need to perform. In the book the author was doing this for chess matches as wells as jiu jitsu. The ritual can be anything you want. The author chose to snack on some almonds and then mediate, as well as a few other things which I can’t remember. One day he got called to a match unexpectedly and had no time to perform the ritual. He wasn’t in the right mindset and therefore lost the match. So he set out to condense the ritual. Every timehe did the ritual thereafter, he condensed it by a few minutes, until finally he was able to perform the ritual and get into the right mindset in just a few seconds. It’s an interesting approach. I still need to develop my “ritual” and coconut oil, butter from grass-fed cows, and organic coffee will definitely be a part of it. Thanks for putting this great post together and sharing your experiences. It was very helpful. Ryan Ballow Chris — I’m totally with you there. Those type of “rituals,” are like.. extremely important to me. And of course most humans, could benefit greatly from some type of “gathering” exercise. I was just thinking actually, about the fact that yoga, and meditative brain exercises always put me in a very “gathered” place. It’s sooo cool !! Since I wrote this post, I’ve backed off a bit on Coconut Oil. Not because I think it’s unhealthy, but I started having issues digesting the stuff. Having gone LC paleo for a while, I probably messed my gut up. Onward and upward
