Personal growth requires overcoming fear and meditating on God’s Word is the best way to accomplish it. In my I said that if you are going to live your life according to your purpose, God is going to have you step out of the boat at some point. When you do, it may generate fear. Meditation can erase that fear.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 1 Tim 1:7
Fear is a spirit that manifest itself as an emotion with the intent to neutralize your destiny. What I have found is that the spirit of fear tends to manipulate the uncertainties in our minds. It uses those uncertainties to paint pictures of the most undesirable outcome.
For example. If you are afraid of heights, it’s inevitable that when you are up high you think about falling. Those suffering from arachnophobia think all spiders will jump on them and bite them. Those afraid of flying think their plane will crash, those afraid of starting a business think it will fail. The truth of the matter is, we don’t know if we will fall, crash, or the fail. Yet, we allow those thoughts to prevail as evidence of truth. Fear really is False Evidence Appearing as Real.
Meditation helps us deal with the uncertainties by removing the negative image generated by fear and replacing them with the desirable images found in the promises of God. Once we replace those images then it postures us to take action to eradicate fear.
For example; Let’s say you have a fear of confronting people that may have wronged you. This was a personal fear of mine at one time. The uncertainty is they may say or do something to harm you in some form or fashion. To overcome that fear you should meditate on scriptures such as “…The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrew 13:6. Meditating on this scripture removes the uncertainty of harm by the assurance of the Lord being there to help during the confrontation.
Here is how you can use meditation to overcome fear:
Get the promise of God concerning your fear. There are many scriptures that talk about fear and what God’s response to it will be. You must search for those scriptures like you would search for gold or precious rubies. Look at them from several different translations. Find the one that resonates within. Here are a few that I meditate on to combat worry and fear.
2 Tim 1:7 John 14:27 [AMP]
1 John 4: 8 Joshua 1: 5-9
Meditate on those scriptures.
There are several different methods of meditation. Each one incorporates the language of the mind which contains words, images, and emotions. Through verbalization, visualization, and internalization of the Word, we able to bring assurance to the uncertainties of life.
Take action. Taking action is the toughest part of overcoming fears, but it is the only way you know you have. After you have meditated on the Word until the internal grip has been loosened, you must face your fears head on. Do the very thing that you were afraid of before.
I pray this post is a blessing to you.
