Fox Valley Zazenkai offers group practice in traditional Zen Meditation for the west suburban area of Chicago. The word Zazenkai simply means “a meditation gathering,” but it can also describe a group of people who practice together regularly without a resident teacher, as in our case. We are sponsored by and meet at , an Aikido dojo located in Naperville, Illinois. We are also affiliated with the Rinzai Zen Community, which provides training and resources to support several smaller meditation groups in the greater Chicago area and elsewhere.
If you are interested in practicing meditation in a group setting, please join us! Beginners are always welcome, and we will provide basic instruction to help you establish a meditation practice. Before attending your first session, we recommend that you watch the short video posted on the website, which also provides a wealth of background about Zen training in general.
Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing without bright colors or prominent designs. We do have male and female dressing rooms if you prefer to change into your practice clothing on location. We also ask that you consider making a $5.00 donation if you are able to do so. We currently meet on Saturday mornings from 8:00 to 9:15, and there is also an optional discussion group from 9:30 to 10:30 at a nearby cafe.
