The jury is out–the benefits of meditation are unparalleled, and we all know it, but it’s often hard to find the time and motivation to get it done! Here are some ideas for fun ways to experience the benefits of meditation.
Get outside. Go on a hike or a walk, or even just go out into your own backyard. Close your eyes and take some time to listen to all the sounds around you. Try painting or drawing with your eyes closed while listening to a guided meditation or some relaxing music on your phone. Don’t worry about the finished product–just let the sensations you feel guide your hand. Alternatively, doodling or coloring can also be meditative, as can repetitive activities, such as knitting, crocheting, or weaving. Meditative coloring books have become really popular recently, and they are also a fun option! Try guided meditation. Sometimes it can be daunting to meditate on your own, especially if you are new to meditation or don’t really understand what meditation is. Sign up for a yoga class. Yoga is a great form of exercise for the body and the mind. As an added bonus, yoga also can teach you how to control your breath–great for people who struggle with panic attacks or anxiety. Do some progressive muscle relaxation.
