My exposure to Yoga began in college but did not blossom until many years later when seeking relief for back pain. In establishing a daily practice, I also realized that I enjoyed showing the benefits of the discipline to others. Thus, I began the 200 RYT teacher training at the North Carolina School of Yoga in 2005, and have been teaching classes regularily since completion of the program in 2006. I am grateful as I continue to grow from various approaches to Asana, including Hot Yoga and more-vigorous Vinyasa styles, as well as from other yoga study.
My gratitude also stems from recognition that Yoga is a broad discipline, offering everyone a means to become more open to themselves in ways that fit their individual path. I seek to challeng every individual student as they are ready. I also emphasize that always everyone is in transition, that awareness of body and mind in the moment is required, and one’s personal practice is a continuum of change.

“Sarah has lived in Durham since 2000. After trying a yoga class at a women’s gym, she said goodbye forever to the dreaded elliptical machine, and started studying yoga. After about 4 years of taking classes, she signed up for a teacher training at the NC School of Yoga. She completed both 200 and 500 hour teacher trainings back to back in 2008 & 2009, and became much happier, healthier, and more content. To this day, she continues to study and serve every week with Chandra Om, her Beloved Teacher, at the Shanti Niketan Ashram in Cary. She considers herself first and foremost to be a devoted student for life. She loves to share the sacred and healing teachings of Yoga with anyone who comes to class, whether they are just starting out or have been practicing for years.”

Stephanie’s yoga journey started in 2003 when she picked up a Shape magazine that was highlighting 8 yoga poses for runners. She loved how her body felt after practicing those poses and became curious about yoga’s health benefits. It was not long after that she noticed yoga’s effects on her mental and spiritual health as a shift occurred from practicing yoga for physical exercise to a life practice. One of the most impactful benefits of yoga was its ability to quiet her mind, leaving her feeling at peace and able to handle life more effectively.
In 2013, Stephanie fulfilled a long time dream of completing her yoga teacher training. She trained under Jimmy Barkan, completing her RYT 200 and Level 2/3 Hot Vinyasa certification. During her pregnancy, Stephanie fell in love with prenatal yoga and the softening of her own practice while nurturing the growing life inside her. She was moved by the experience and has since received her prenatal yoga certification in 2016 through Asheville Yoga Center. She feels incredibly lucky to have the privilege of creating a warm, supportive space for expecting mothers to connect with themselves, their babies and fellow mamas-to-be.
