Yoga Nidra Workshop with SC Nameth Saturday, May 7, 2:00-4:00pm Yoga Nidra is the state of being between sleep and wakefulness where the relaxation response and regeneration occur. This healing practice relieves stress patterns by retraining the nervous system to relax, which creates a natural setting for the body to heal itself. Yoga Nidra is the perfect supplement to yoga, therapy, meditation, and other healing modalities or can be used alone. The practice of Yoga Nidra is deceptively simple. Because it is taught lying down it’s appealing to people who might feel intimidated by yoga postures or traditional seated meditation. Its various elements, taken together and practiced regularly, make up asophisticated set of mind-body tools that can help practitioners navigate some of life’s harshest moments. Yoga Nidra can also be practiced as an accessible form of meditation for those seeking everyday well-being. We begin with some yoga poses (asana) to warm up the body, a mix of pranayama (breathwork) and play, then 35-45 minutes of divine yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra). Stacy-Colleen (SC) Nameth is a Los Angeles native who has lived on the East Coast and abroad, returning to LA to live, work and play. After working in social services for twenty years, she began to study stress and trauma and their effects on the mind and body, and discovered through research and training how the body can heal itself. She was trained in Hatha Yoga at the 200-hour level by Maria Cristina Jiminez and Keric Morinaga, and in LifeForce Yoga for anxiety, depression, chronic stress, insomnia and trauma by Amy Weintraub. In teaching, she seeks to instill creativity and curiosity on the mat, integrating it andthen bringing it into the world. In addition to completing her 300-hour Yoga Madre advanced training with Rene’ Quenell, SC is a Level 2 LifeForce Yoga Practitioner, and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. SC has been trained by Richard Miller in Level 1 iRest Yoga Nidra for individuals and groups. iRest is a ten-step meditation-based program that utilizes deep relaxation techniques to enhance wellbeing and emotional and mental balance. SC utilizes this technique with students and clients who have chronic illness, emotional imbalances, sleepless nights, bouts of anger, depression and anxiety, and PTSD. She also works individually with clients in LA and Pasadena as a Licensed Psychotherapist working with trauma and substance abuse, integrating prescriptive yoga and meditation into the healing process. $25 early bird (until 4/30) $35 regular price (after 4/30) Register online .
