TM
Transcendental Meditation is a simple, effortless, mental technique that works on both the mind and body. There have been over 600 scientific studies showing the benefits of Transcendental Meditation in the areas of mental potential, health and well being. TM has been shown to be the most effective, non-medical approach to reducing anxiety, lowering high blood pressure and reversing the detrimental effects of stress. Over 6 million people worldwide have learnt the technique. TM is practised for 20 minutes twice a day. It is not a religious practice or philosophy and does not involve any change in lifestyle. The TM technique is practiced sitting comfortably with eyes closed. Transcendental Meditation literally means to go beyond thinking. TM involves no concentration or control and uses the natural tendency of the mind to go towards more peace and happiness. The mind and body settle down and in this relaxed state the body spontaneously throws off stress. Transcendental Meditationis found to fully enliven the brain. Studies show that there is increased blood flow to the brain and increased coherence between the different parts of the brain during the practice. This translates into clearer thinking, better memory, improved reaction time and increased creativity. Psychologists say that we only use about 5-10% of our mental potential. It is stress that restricts both the structure and function of the brain. When we are stressed we can’t think beyond the immediate situation and can not think rationally even about that. During stress the physiology goes into a state of fight or flight. The brain goes into a state which is characterised by short sightedness, increased emotional response and impulsive behaviour. In contrast during TM the brain is found to be in a state of increased stability and integration. During Transcendental Meditation, while the mind is found to be in a state of restful alertness, the body is in a state of rest twice as deep as deep sleep. Fatigue can be eliminated by a good night’s sleep however we can still wake up stressed. To dissolve the deep rooted stresses, the physiology needs to experience this profound state of rest. Research shows our oxygen consumption is half that of what we experience while asleep indicating a deeply restful state. In this state the body is able to get rid of stress, repair and rejuvenate. Stress disturbs the body’s natural functions and lowers immunity. It is the precursor to many diseases and it has been shown that when people practice Transcendental Meditation regularly they have far less visits to the hospital as compared with the control group. People who practice Transcendental Meditation gain inner strength and psychological balance and find that they become more tolerant. Relationships and inner contentment are found to improve and drug and alcohol dependency is found to diminish. This is due to the fact that the individuals are less stressed and are better able to deal withstressful situations. Transcendental Meditation was introduced to the Western World over 50 years ago by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Transcendental Meditation is taught all over the world by qualified TM teachers. The first step to learn Transcendental Meditation is attend a free introductory lecture. Contact Wendy to find out how. Endorsements from TM practitioners “I have been practising Transcendental Meditation for several months now and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Wendy is a great teacher of TM, she explains things in a way that are straight forward and easy to understand. She has such a calm manner that you automtically feel calm yourself when you are with her. TM has become part of my everyday life. I look forward to meditating every day. It has certainly had a good influence on my life – I feel calmer and more alert, I sleep much better than before and I feel I’m a nicer, kinder person. I am looking forward to learning more about TM and receiving even more benefits in mylife.” Helen W., QLD “I am a new recruit to T.M. and I have found the ongoing teachings and follow up really valuable. Wendy is a good teacher.” M.R. “I learnt TM years many ago and have found it an effective method of reducing stress. Before practicing TM I averaged about four migraine headaches per year and now I don’t have any migraines. I think it’s because the stress no longer accumulates. I also do yoga asanas each morning and night before my TM practice, and have found that the intermittent, recurring lower back pain I suffered has gone and my body is more flexible now at 59 than it was in my 20’s and 30’s. Regular practice of TM and asanas has made a significant improvement to my sense of mental and physical wellbeing.” Gary S. “I could not believe how effortless it was to release the tension caused by my life negatives and embrace the positives again. After less than one week I’d stopped procrastinating, was confidently making decisions, felt calm and prepared to deal witheveryday living on my own.” Judy B “Remarkably, from the very start of your teaching, from day one of daily practice, I am not only calmer, more awake and simply bubbling with energy and constantly smiling. I am truly awakening to a new reality, a new inner peace and happiness I had not previously felt. For the first time in my life, age 35, with all the modern pressures of work and family, I can honestly and sincerely say I understand that true happiness and fulfilment comes from deep within- true bliss.” Candice “My daily life has been less stressful and demanding as I work in a high pressure environment. I’ve found it calming and gives me better concentration and less fatigue and more energy throughout the day.” Dave Lawrence Helicopter Pilot “As a teacher in a busy high school, I have found TM has reduced my stress levels and allowed me to operate more effectively. I am able to time manage much more effectively.” J.B “Since learning TM in 2009, I have become much more settledand relaxed. As a teacher I have noticed that I am more focused and balanced when dealing with students. Surprisingly I have noticed an improvement in my golf since starting TM.” “I am more centered in self, more even tempered and relaxed. Meditation gives me time to just be! I am very pleased that I was given the opportunity to learn TM and intend TMing for life.” J.L, teacher aide and grandmother “I have become calmer, more balanced and grounded. I am happier and experience more energy and a deep feeling of calmness at my very core that has started to stay with me on a daily basis.” T.J. “I found learning the TM technique to be the most powerful and yet the most simple method of meditation I’ve ever experienced. The most powerful effects measured in my everyday experience of being able to handle the most stressful situations with calmness and objectivity and the improvement of my attitude, health and interpersonal skills is enormous.” Jen Hall Kiss principle, success coachingand holistic life dynamics “I started TM 3 years ago and found during the lead up to my final year medical exams last year, that what would have ordinarily been an extremely stressful period was calm seas and smooth sailing. I graduated with distinctions and have embarked on a very prosperous career. I am so grateful that TM entered my life when it did. I’ll never be that neurotic person again.” G.N. Doctor How Transcendental Meditation is different to other meditation and relaxation techniques. Transcendental Meditation is a scientific technique; it can be understood in terms of the latest theories in Quantum Physics and the benefits have been thoroughly scientifically researched. Over 600 studies document the benefits of TM on mind, body, behaviour and society. A Meta analysis of 597 studies (pub. In American Jour of Health promotion) showed substantially more benefit from TM than other techniques in the areas ofreduction in high blood pressure, younger biological age, decreased insomnia, decreased anxiety, reduced illness and increased self actualisation. Transcendental Meditation is a technique for experiencing life at the level of the Unified Field discovered by Quantum physicists to be underlying all of life. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi found that this Unified Field is the same as the field of pure consciousness and during TM this field can be accessed in the individual’s awareness. With regular practice of TM you integrate this level of awareness into the rest of your daily life. Transcendental Meditation works on both the level of the mind and body. The mind is found to be in a state of restful alertness. During TM there is a unique brain pattern showing integrated brain functioning indicated by increased blood flow to the brain, enhanced EEG coherence and marked improvements in the prefrontal cortex responsible for moral reasoning, problem solving etc.; this translates into clearer thinking, more holistic thinking, better memory and improved concentration. The body is in a state of rest twice as deep as deep sleep. In this profound state of rest deep rooted stresses are dissolved and the body’s self repair mechanisms are activated. Transcendental Meditation does not require any belief, expectation or intention. TM is a mechanical technique; the only prerequisite is the ability to think TM is very easy to learn; children as young as 10 years old can start and it is a completely effortless technique. Transcendental Meditation does not require any concentration or attempt to control the mind. Meditation literally means “thinking”, Transcendental means “to go beyond” therefore TM translates into “to go beyond thinking”. Most other meditation techniques involve concentration or contemplation; they attempt to create a forced stillness in the mind. In comparison TM expands the conscious capacity of the mind by experiencing thought at quieter levels until the process of thinkingis transcended. Transcendental Meditation is not just a technique to experience relaxation it is a way of developing higher states of consciousness. Transcendental Meditation is a technique to develop higher state of consciousness. We all experience 3 states of consciousness which are waking, dreaming and sleeping. During TM we experience a 4th state called Transcendental Consciousness. TC is the most silent expanded state of our own awareness and is distinct in its mental and physical characteristics from waking, dreaming and sleeping state. Regular experience of Transcendental Consciousness brings about the development of Cosmic Consciousness, God Consciousness and then Unity Consciousness. In Cosmic Consciousness the restfully alert experience of TC is never lost even when engaging in mental and physical activity. In God Consciousness the outer perception of the world is experienced in its most refined state; the absolute value of life shines through all aspects of creation. InUnity Consciousness the individual experiences everything in terms of oneself; the supreme value of human development is achieved where there is no separation from anything in the universe. Transcendental Meditation is taught in a universal, systematic way so its effectiveness does not depend on the teacher being enlightened. Maharishi developed the TM course in a way so that the evolution of the individual unfolds spontaneously. Teachers have been taught to preserve the purity of the teaching by teaching in a systematic way; you learn the same technique anywhere in the world and once you have learnt you can go anywhere in the world and join in the centres group meditations or have your meditation checked. Effectiveness does not depend on the TM teacher being enlightened but it does depend on them being a qualified TM teacher. Transcendental Meditation does not involve any change in lifestyle. People from many walks of life, cultures and religions practice TM. It is a mental techniquenot a philosophy. Transcendental Meditation, when practiced in a group, has been found to affect the collective consciousness of the area. It has been found that when 1% of people in a society practice TM it is enough to positively alter the collective consciousness. This is called the Maharishi Effect. The phenomenon of the Maharishi Effect is knows in physics as the ‘field effect’, just as a radio station can broadcast information through the electromagnetic field, meditators can generate coherence through the field of consciousness. This effect has been scientifically proven in over 50 studies. Transcendental Meditation: the Mechanics of Manifestation As scientists have gone to the quantum level of life to understand the workings of the universe they have discovered that the solid non-changing world as we know it is replaced by a sea of fluctuating particles governed by probability. At its most subtle level energy appears to take the form of a thought. While scientists are stillgrappling with the ramifications of these mind bending discoveries, life coaches and natural healers are embracing this shift in consciousness. There has been a rise in popularity in self development programs and healing techniques based on positive thinking and visualisation. Thought creates reality so we should be able to recreate our world exactly as we would like. While good in theory and seeming to follow the scientific logic of quantum physics such techniques are limited in their effectiveness and depend on the circumstance and ability of the individual using them. They are limited for two reasons; the conscious mind can only maintain positive thinking for a fraction of our day and then we are sabotaged by negative thinking originating from past experience stored in our subconscious and secondly we are trying to use quantum mechanical laws on the level of the relative world. It is like using a hammer to smash a subatomic particle. Just as there are different levels of lifewith their corresponding laws of nature there are also different levels of the mind. What we experience throughout the day is limited to the surface level of the mind. If we imagine our mind to be like an ocean, it is as if we are riding the crashing waves on the surface. To experience the quantum level of reality we must transcend the surface level and take our awareness to the depths of the mind. While quantum physicists are building increasingly more complex machines to unravel the workings of the quantum world, the Vedic technology of Transcendental Meditation allows the mind to effortless experience this level of life. It is the regular experience of this state of transcendental consciousness that is crucial to transforming your life and really working with the quantum laws of nature. If you have spent the whole of your life believing that the world is a certain way, it takes a consistent experience of it being different before life will follow the new flow of consciousness.Anything is possible but it won’t be materialised by fleeting thoughts or one off experiences of transcendental consciousness. To get fit we have to train our body likewise to operate from the quantum mechanical world we have to take our awareness their on a regular basis. Like this: Like Loading...
