Spring Term 2016 Tuesday 5th January 2016 – Thursday 24th March 2016 (Half term – 15th – 19th February 2016) Staff Professional Development and Training Days in 2015 / 2016 Spring Term 2016 Monday 4th January
Due to the Local Authority’s re-organisation of age ranges in Dunstable, all middle schools are to be closed and Streetfield Middle School will close in August 2016.
As always Streetfield will continue to put its children and their childhood first, we will ensure that every child can become the best that he or she can be academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
We will focus on ensuring that each child will be properly prepared for their transfer to secondary school in September 2016
We will do this by pursuing our ethos of Explore, Discover, Enquire and Apply. There is the National Curriculum there is the so-called new curriculum and then there’s the ‘Streetfield Curriculum’ – designed exclusively for the children and families that we have in our school.
We will continue to pursue ‘real’ education and build on our unique extended curriculum to enhance the cultural, spiritual and democratic understanding of all pupils in preparation for modern life in the United Kingdom.
In 2014/15 our ‘British Heritage’ trips to London visited landmarks such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Millennium Bridge and then to see one of the children’s favourite stories of all time brought to life on Drury Lane – ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. These trips were reinforced with visits to Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square and, with our outing to see ‘War Horse’ in the West End, these whole school opportunities built on the visit from our M.P. and local councillors and introduced all children to the democratic processes of Great Britain in a practical and meaningful way just before the general election.
In addition we enhanced our school curriculum with in-school visits of:
And our whole school trips to see:
Our continued high profile and successful involvement in sporting activities in our local community resulted in our being awarded the GOLD AWARD for the third year in a row. The Key Stage 2 Sport Premium funded our outdoor adventurous play area, dance and martial arts studio and our ambitious target to ensure that we compensated for all those Year 5 pupils who left their previous school without learning to swim.
This, our final, year will witness us pursue even grander ambitions.
In addition to developing a true love of lifelong learning, developing our literacy, numeracy and scientific skills as well as our inquisitorial skills:
This year every child will have free keyboard lessons and be taught how to read, write, play and compose music on a keyboard with a one hour lesson every week.
This year using our Sports Premium money every child will be taught three new and unfamiliar sports. In the Autumn Term we all learned to ski, in the Spring Term we will hone co-ordination skills through ‘circus skills’ training and in the Summer Term either golf or archery.
This year we will explore our local environment and record the historical importance of our town and its environs.
This year we will each learn the essential social skills to become a happy and contented adult with aspirations. All the skills that will make other people want to be our friend. All the skills that will help us make sure we can achieve co-operation from all those we come into contact with.
This year we will learn how to become emotionally resilient and develop a strong sense of self-worth.
This year we will prepare every child for their personal future by enabling an insight into the world of further training, education and work and ensure that their transition to secondary school will be as harmonious and trouble free as is possible.
Our enhanced curriculum for the Autumn Term included:
For the Spring Term, in addition to preparing pupils for national tests in May and proceeding with our pacey and packed curriculum, we plan the following:
To continue with our very successful:
programmes as these have proven to improve feelings of self worth, levels of concentration and general well-being. In addition we plan:
So, it will be very busy.
This will be a formative term where we further develop and consolidate our learning, social and emotional skills – it will also be one of fun and enjoyment. Here’s to an exciting and fruitful 2016.
