What would you do if I told you that you could change the way you feel in just 10 min or less?
Anyone who knows me should know this: I’ve got a ton of energy. I have trouble sitting still when I talk to people and when I’m alone my mind is constantly racing. A lot of people can identify with this feeling, and I get a lot of questions from my clients about steps to take to clear your mind and think of nothing. As well as tell them about some of the tips I practice, which I’ve included below, I also tell my clients to give from Deepak Chopra a read. The article covers all of the basics and benefits of meditation, which is something I think everyone needs to know — not just those starting out.
5 things everyone can do to start meditating
If you’re looking to start meditating, here are 5 actions you can practice on a daily basis.
- Start small. Begin by simply sitting and breathing for 60 seconds. I figured I could do anything for 60 seconds, I was right. Once you’ve mastered a minute, increase the seconds at intervals you feel comfortable with.
- Use guided meditation. I used guided meditation more than 50% of the time when I first started. I thought of guided meditation like having a personal training.
- Do a walking meditation. I don’t believe you have to sit perfectly still with a straight back and your hands in Buddhi Mudra to meditate. Meditation is about connecting with your true self regardless of how you do it. If you like to walk, go outside and breathe in the beauty around you.
- Forget about the little things. Had a fight over nothing with your partner? Worried about what your friend is thinking about something you’ve said? I, like anyone, can get upset about the ‘little things’. As humans, it’s the nature of the mind to magnify small things into serious problems. Take a deep breath and count to ten. This is meditating. It helps us detach and see the big picture.
- Be grateful. It’s something that I practice and live every single day! Simply sit down and say “Thank You”! Appreciation and gratefulness are key.
Finding the gift of meditation was something that helped me change my life and rewired the way I think. It wasn’t an easy journey, but I feel I am a better person because of this daily practice. The time I spend meditating are the most valuable minutes of my day. Like and share this post on Facebook. I want to know about your journey.
