Okay, so here are 3 easy ways to learn meditation. These strategies will get you started with the basic meditation techniques. Before you start any type of meditation it’s important to prepare a peaceful place to sit or lie down and make yourself comfortable.
Breath work. In this first step to learn meditation you’ll simply be observing your breath. It’s a simple but absolutely vital technique. Take about 10 minutes to be silent and observe your breath. You might like to count your breath – observe the in-breath and the out-breath. Are they equal in length? And if not, try to make them equal. Also, play around with the length of your breath. Breath in long deep breaths and see how it feels in your body, and then try short breaths. You’ll notice that long deep breaths make you feel more relaxed. You might also like to close the left nostril and just breathe with right one – and vice versa. Another way to observe the breath is to do a 10-Count. Count your breath up to 10 – and then start over again. Do this without any other thought in your mind – and repeat it for 5 minutes or so. (It’s trickier than you think!) Candle Gazing. In this second way to learn meditation you’ll need a candle and some soft music. The idea is to gaze into the flameof the candle for 10 minutes and let all your thoughts fall away. If you have soft music playing in the background it will make it easier for you to feel at peace gazing at the candle flame. Thought Awareness. When you’re first learning meditation you’ll notice that your thoughts tend to keep running a muck. You might try hard to stop your thoughts and have some peace of mind, but they keep chattering on in your mind. So, another important technique to learn meditation is to observe your thoughts. To do this imagine that you’re in a movie theatre and you’re watching the screen – and the screen contains all your thoughts. Observe your thoughts as they pass by – just observe – no judgements! You’ll find that when you watch your thoughts long enough they’ll actually stop automatically which will give you peace of mind.
