A regular Meditation practise helps us to regain control of our minds by taming the “monkey mind” – that never-ending stream of thoughts – and find our quiet centre.
The results of scores of scientific studies prove that meditation can have a direct benefit on every aspect of our lives. Meditation teaches us to focus, which can lead to our becoming more efficient and effective at work, or whatever other activity we are involved in. It helps us to relax, and to be more accepting of whatever is happening rather than constantly complaining or wishing things were different in some way. Through regular practice we learn to be attentive and present in the moment which, among other things, can help us to improve our relationships with others and with ourselves, and because meditation has been proven to help reduce stress in our lives, it leads directly to improved health and vitality, (it is widely accepted in the medical profession that more than 80% of our health problems can be attributed to stress).
In short, the benefits are truly endless.
There are many misconceptions about meditation, including: that it is difficult; that you need to have or acquire spiritual or religious beliefs; that it takes many years of practice to get any benefit; that you don’t have the time… the list goes on.
In fact, meditation is easy, and can be fun (although seriously good for you). You can retain whatever beliefs you currently have – even if you are a committed atheist – and still benefit from meditation. You can gain immediate benefits from meditating even for just a few short minutes.
Perhaps the biggest myth is that there is a “right way” to meditate. In fact there are scores of different techniques – each of them perfectly valid. The only criteria that need be applied when assessing a particular method is “does this work for me“?
Conscious Moves provides “Many Paths Meditation” classes which are designed to allow you to experience a variety of techniques so that you can discover the ones that work best for you.
We also offer a number of Workplace Meditation services, specifically aimed at employers who wish to help their people manage stress and become more productive at work. These are usually held on premise and can be arranged before work begins, at lunchtime or immediately after work. Services range from one-off sessions teaching a few practical techniques that are easy to learn, through to a series of workshops taking place on a weekly / fortnightly / monthly basis.
