There are 15 buildings in various stages of progress, each is 60 by 100 and two floors which comes out to 12,000 square feet per building. It didn’t appear they have basements, but that’s only speculation on my part from what I could observe. That’s a whole lot of something to be going outside the little town of Smith Center. You’d think someone would take notice.
At the time Krier’s roving photographer took the pictures, only one worker was on the site. Krier goes on to say: “Rumors have been flying rampant as to where the workers are and why; but, no one seems to know for sure. Among the rumors making the rounds is that the workers were pulled off this project to go to Iowa to work on a Vedic City project. Only time will tell what is going on with the project in Smith County.” I’d think a curious reporter could find out.
My connections in Smith Center tell me the question remains as to where they are going to get water. They are miles from the river and that part of Smith County is known for being very protective of their water supply. It also begs the question as to where all the people are coming from to fill the space.
Their website says was incorporated on July 21, 2001, as a model of ideal city life. “Founded to become a “lighthouse of peace” for America and the world. The City is working to establish a permanent group of peace-creating experts whose daily practice of Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation™ and Yogic Flying techniques will promote coherent national and world consciousness and thereby prevent any negativity from arising in America or in the family of nations.” The Smith Center location is to be their Center of World Peace.
Maybe readers will add comments so we can learn more. In reading their material on line, one is lead to believe they changed their minds mid-course and now are focusing on Vedic City Iowa to be their world capital rather than the Kansas site. Like Jack Krier says, “Only time will tell.”
